i'm home. i've been back in the u.s. for over a month and have been home in NY for less than a week. I spend a few weeks hanging out in grantham trying to round up some form of summer employment. I failed and after an attempt in Philly came home. While i'm bummed with the fact that I haven't yet found any summer employment, it's good to be home. My mother had surgery on her foot and she really does need me to help look after her. I'm still not sure what i'm going to do for the summer and if nothing opens up soon I may just be back in Grantham, depending on whether or not campus events still needs workers.
but on to more interesting things. well, i'm not sure if it's really more interesting but we'll see. Overall I think I'm glad to be back. I'm really glad to be home now and have been grateful for the time I've had to process through some of what I experienced this spring. I really miss Cairo a lot. I miss MESP, hanging out in the villa, nussa, peanut butter and banana sandwiches on good ole ayesh baladi (translation=country bread, think pita) and Agouza and taxi rides to auc and concerts at the culture wheel and the circus in agouza. i miss it all and what saddens me the most is that it can never return. sure, i can go back to egypt and walk through the motions but it will be different. that's not necessarily a bad thing but it's the truth. part of what made the semester what it was, were the people that were on it and we'll never be able to get that back.
well, in the spirit of recognizing that my semester is "halased" (finished) i think i'm done with this blog. i may return from time to time but i don't think i'll update it anymore. i have decided that i do want to continue to blog, and i want to try to actually blog
consistently. my new blog address is http://towardstheuntravelledworld.wordpress.com. check for updates!
